This full-length statue is one of Lewis’ most well-known works. The first book in the series, from creators Jasmine Walls, Bex Glendining, and Kieran Quigley, spotlights artist Edmonia Lewis, the first widely-celebrated professional sculptor to come from African-American and Native American heritage. Orphaned at an early age, Lewis grew up in her mothers tribe where her life revolved around fishing, swimming, and making and selling crafts.
